Dan Gable is without a doubt the greatest collegiate coach of any sport sponsored by the NCAA in men or women’s athletics.

I share the with John Wooden, the UCLA Basketball Coach who won 10 NCAA Team Championships, when interviewed at a Coaching Clinic where they both were there as clinicians. He also noted that Dan was the greatest collegiate coach of all time.

Seventeen NCAA Championships is hard to get in any sport regardless of whether it is major or minor sport.

The man was able to have his teams near or at the the top in every year he coached at Iowa University.

A remarkable feat of consistency and excellence.

While Dan Gable’s contributions to amateur wrestling are nothing short of spectacular, I believe his best is yet to come. He is the one person who can unite the entire wrestling community and uniquely position our sport to thrive for many decades.

Tell it for what it is… Gable cheated and enslaved the sport to his own ego. I have no idea how you can be considered good for the sport when you wrecked it by using your cronies to give yourself an unimaginable competitive advantage. Along with Title 9, budgets, and bad coaches, many teams were dropped because they could not compete.
